Nov. 29: We’re Back, But We’re Scared

Hey gang, I missed you.

I wanted to do some catharsis and let you in on my inner state these days.

I’ve been thinking a lot about tomorrow’s episode and how paralyzed I have felt in trying to talk about this because my position doesn’t feel welcomed in contemporary society.

I hope you can understand that my description of this topic does not come from some ill-intentioned desire to further deepen people’s wounds or to be a bigot or racist or anything like that. I feel like that’s obvious if you know me, but if you don’t, please read my words: my intention is to have an open dialogue with my friend Clay, and to discuss what we have learned about Palestine and Israel, as well as shed our moral light and clarity on this topic.

I have to keep reminding myself that no one can take away my identity or the things that I care deeply about and that I am not wrong for using history and a larger context to guide my position.

Of course, I realize I’m a biased girly. I cannot take away my own dispositions and morality, nor do I think that is necessary. Please, don’t hold this against me.

Another thing about my special guest, Clay: He is so well-spoken and thoughtful and I really am so lucky to have such well-intentioned and knowledgeable people in my life. His perspective on this is extremely valuable and he taught me a lot about Jewish and Palestinian history during this conversation, so hopefully you can learn something too!

If you want to see more of Clay, follow him on Instagram @claymunism.

Lastly, remember our friend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.? Well, this is one of my favorite quotes from him:

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

Never forget that. Sometimes, you have to stick your neck out for those who have done so their entire life, for that is the just thing to do.

That’s it, folks. Do good, be good, keep learning.

xoxo
